I have lots of catching up to do on this blog and I am going to need some encouragement:) Its taken me awhile to get the hang of things in my new life as a mom. Gwen is on a great schedule and sleeping through the night and I finally feel like im living a normal life again. So i have no more excuses:) One of my goals this year was to REGULARLY update my blog so its not such a chore every time.

This is my way of keeping our family journal and its important to me to have all these fun memories documented!

So I am committing to a blog post everyday for at least a week or until I am updated. Stay on me! and Stay tuned!

The next few days when I looked at her I cried. The spirit of purity she brought with her into our home overwhelmed me. I've waited my whole life to be a MOM and it took us a very long time to get little Gwennie here. I just feel so grateful and humbled to be her mom. Nursing for 8 hrs a day, changing tons of diapers, no sleep, getting spit up all over etc. doesnt bother me at all, I consider it a privilege. When she cries to wake me up in the middle of the night I just get excited to hold her, bury my face into her neck, and kiss those big squishy cheeks:) Im SO happy she is finally here!

Gwen's Arrival

I woke up July 21st from a night of painful but irregular contractions and went to the doctor that morning to get a check up, I was so happy to hear that I was dilated to a 3 and 100% effaced. They said I would have the baby today or tomorrow! So i ran some last minute errands and cleaned. Sure enough that night contractions came back, starting at 11:00pm. I wanted to do as much as I could at home so I showered and packed my hospital bag. By 2:45am I couldn't take it anymore so I woke Alec up and we headed for the hospital, thankfully we live next door so it only took about 30 seconds. When we go there they checked me and I was at a 5 so they let me stay:)

The second we walked into the room where I was to deliver, it hit me. Tears filled my eyes as I looked over at the empty bassinet that would soon be filled with MY precious little daughter. There was such a special spirit there.

The contractions were painful and I was so relieved once I got the epidural! I remember thinking why didn't I come in sooner and get this! I was able to relax, smile, rest and get excited for my little girl to come. Then at about 11:30 am my epidural machine started beeping and ran out. I had been dilated to a 10 for over an hour now and was just letting the baby make her way down on her own.

It was time to push and I could now feel everything. awesome.

I thought I was tough because I wanted to be able to feel what was going on so I didnt have to push for as long.. so I told the doctor to hold off on topping me off. Wrong about being tough, and wrong about not pushing for long. I started to push at about 12:00pm and did so as hard as I could until 3:19.

The last 2 hours were a blur. Her head was stuck. I hadn't slept in over 48 hours. I was pushed beyond my human capacity. Alec told me later that sometime during the last 45 min I just started praying out loud with all nurses and doctors in the room. oops... Heavenly Father, I cant do this anymore. I need you to take over now. I give up. I have to. It felt like I was in and out of consciousness, between contractions I would get oxygen, and just pass out, and then there it was again. It was HARD. Beyond HARD, it was IMPOSSIBLE. I'm pretty sure you could hear me screaming from the parking lot. I couldn't have gone through that alone and I thank Heavenly Father and the angels that were there helping me. Alec and my nurse being 2 of them. My nurse Mary never left my side, she dabbed my face with a cold towel, told me I was the best pusher ever and Alecs voice was the only thing getting me through each contraction. Everything else was just a blur. Finally her head started to come out and then they said wait for the doctor! What! No! imagine being in the worst pain of your entire life x10 and someone saying to you.. hold it right there! It took him 15 min to get there. seemed like FOREVER. Am I ok? still alive? I thought I could possibly be losing it. Finally the doctor arrived and I pushed her out. I went from the lowest of lows in my life to the highest of highs all within a few minutes of each other.

Words cant describe the feelings that came when she arrived. I instantly loved her more than I knew I could love. I was overwhelmed with peace as I heard her cry and saw her tiny little body. They placed her right on my chest and I smelled and kissed her sweet face, then Alec and I put our foreheads together and cried. She was hard work. She was worth it. She was perfect.

GIRL!!!!

This was definitely the happiest day I have had since my wedding day. I honestly didn't prefer one gender over the other but my GUT feeling was that it was a girl. Having that confirmed and seeing her move all around was incredible. Ill never forget the feelings I had holding alecs hand with much anticipation and as soon as we found out tears started falling down my cheeks, its like she came down and gave me a big giant hug.

We celebrated by going to our favorite karens bakery for lunch and with PINK cupcakes and balloons at work!

Oahu

The good life....

This year we got lucky with an AMP trip to Oahu! We were so excited to escape for the week with family and friends! We spent almost all of our time on the beach.. the boys boogie boarding, surfing, and digging. The girls laying out, swimming, and chatting. SO much FUN!

Santa Barbara Half Marathon!

WOOOOHOOOO I DID IT!!!!! I was proud to finish and accomplish my goal time of 2 hrs not having much time at all to train, only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before and many unexpected intense hills. Ive never really got into running until this year... in fact I used to hate it! This summer my sister rose and friends melanie and hailey started a little running group and I learned to LOVE it. Ive noticed that it is by far the quickest way for me to get into shape and I love that it gives a more trim and toned result rather than a more bulky looking muscle. (not that ive accomplished that!) So instead of P90x or going to the gym ive been sticking to running and yoga and LOVE them both!

Alec and Wyatt were a great support group riding along the course on their bikes and cheering me on at the finish line with water and flowers:)

Also, if you couldn't already read through my fake smile in the first picture what im really thinking is.... "are you seriously taking a picture right now? seriously on the 10th mile right after that giant hill? REAL funny."

Halloween time!

This picture was taken before our ward trunk or treat. Alec didn't tell me but after we parked and opened our trunk he pulled out an indo board so he could do TRICKS and TREATS for the kids. So, he held a bowl of candy while balancing on the indo board and would ask the kids if they wanted a trick or a treat and would balance on one foot and put the bowl under his leg to give them their candy. Ha ha yep, after an attempt of a new trick he shattered my ceramic bowl:) I didn't care because I was too busy laughing so hard.

I would have laughed so hard if you had told me that I would be coming home from the summer with a puppy! I still sometimes can't believe that Alec talked me into it! He has found a new best friend and I'm really excited to have a running companion:) We really are so happy to have him a part of our family and he just seems to fit right in.

I knew I had to surprise him, so when Alec got home from work I had friend drop him off at our door step and ring the door bell.
Alec opened the door and there he was with a big red bow tied around his neck!

Norwegian Parade

Alec was thrilled when he found out there would be a big Norwegian parade in Chicago! You should have seen his face the whole time we were there:) smiling from ear to ear. I love hearing him speak Norwegian its such a cool language, he's been teaching me since we got married and I cant wait to teach our kids some day. Then we will have a secret family language:) We have also adopted lots of yummy recipes and fun holiday traditions.

We love Norway and hope to live there someday.

Dan's 50th

We had a surprise party for Dan in Vegas with all of his close friends and family. It was TONS of fun and he had NO idea, he thought he was just going to see his grandbabies that live there. The highlight of the trip was going to see the beatles show "LOVE." It was incredible.

Weekend Getaway

Alec told me not to make any plans for the weekend and said he was taking me away somewhere. He started packing up the car and despite my begging refused to tell me where we were going. So I packed my bags for anything and everything. We headed north on the 1. The drive was probably my favorite part of the trip, we spent 4 hours talking about our future and goals, never once turning on the stereo. Not to mention I have never seen anything more beautiful! Everywhere your eyes could see were green rolling hills with horses and cows roaming around, and the beautiful ocean right along side us. We ended up in Mendocino. Ever heard of it? I hadn't. Alec had reserved for us to stay in a 360 sq ft cottage built in the 40's that overlooked the ocean.

During our stay at the cottage we had fresh eggs delivered to us every morning and were able to pick freely from their
vegetable and flower gardens. At night we would turn on this fireplace and snuggle up in front of it with a book.
One of my favorite parts of the trip!

We had fun feeding the chickens and other animals. Alec was in heaven. This picture of him cracks me up, he blends right in!

We drove to a cliff overlooking the ocean for a picnic and on the way there stopped to run around in this field of yellow flowers.
It was such a beautiful day.

There was a trail from our cottage to a private beach. Alec got soaked by a tidal wave, and I stayed dry up on that log.

We had fun exploring a beautiful part of California that we had never seen before. Highlights: cooking breakfast together in that tiny kitchen (turning out to be the best breakfasts we have ever had, thanks to the fresh eggs), Alec surprising me with fresh flowers from the garden when I woke up, one of the most beautiful hikes through the forest behind the cottage, walking through Mendocino and all the cool shops, finding the BEST restaurant we have ever been to, and knowing that the only person around for MILES was Alec.

What better way to start the year than a trip with the Nethercott's to Kauai! We had so much fun playing, relaxing, and
going on adventures around this beautiful island! Even though I have never been to another island this is my favorite:)

I had so much fun taking Wyatt's senior pictures, this is the one he ended up using. I love this shot of Alec too. What handsome brothers! They look so much a like ;)

June 24th-July 5th 2008

Alec and I were so excited to get the opportunity to go back to his mission just 3 months after he came home especially being engaged! He was still in close contact with many of the people that he taught and became such good friends with. It was such a fun family trip with the Nethercotts, they were SO kind to let me come along (as they always have been) traveling with them is one of my very favorite things to do. We sure missed Dayna and her sweet family! First we went to Copenhagen Denmark for a week and a half (Dan has some work he is doing there) It was SUCH a cool city.

Norway....here we come!
We took the Ferry over from Denmark to Alec's favorite area of his mission Kristiansand. Alec was SO HAPPY!

Kristiansand!
Meet Thordis, When Alec was serving in Kristiansand she took the BEST care of him. She fed/feeds the missionaries twice a week! She insisted that we stayed with her when we arrived and had rented out an apartment in her complex where visitors could come. She had our beds all ready to go and fed us EVERY meal. She is one of the sweetest woman iv'e ever known! We miss you Thordis!

We had so much fun with the Torjesen families! They took us to their cabin getaway and we enjoyed kayaking, a scenic boat tour, tennis, and relaxing. We were in "awe" at the beauty all around us.

Torleif and Hilda had us over for a yummy dinner! It felt like we had known them forever. They have the most incredible swing in their backyard! Here is Alec playing on it on his mission, and a couple years later Elise (their cute little daughter) and I taking our turn on the swing together :) She was so cute trying to speak English to me.

It was so exciting for Alec to be able to attend church here. Everyone was so excited to see Eldste Nethercott again! One of my favorite memories of the whole trip is when we all got up to bear our testimonies while Alec stood at the pulpit translating for us.

It was so hard saying goodbye to Thordis, the morning we left she had tears filled in her eyes and managed to say the words "I love you family Nethercott." We all teared up and it was a sad goodbye to our new adopted Grandmother. We love you Thordis!

Next Stop...OSLO!
Alec also served here for 6 months of his mission.. We had fun walking around the city. We went with the missionaries on their p-day to the biggest ski jump in the world!

Alec craved these so bad when he got home. Some missionaries eat one a day.... It was an acquired taste for me...

On to SANDVIKA
Alec made some very special friends here on his mission. When they were told that he was coming to see them again they ran a mile down the street to wait for him on the main corner. When they saw our Van drive by they started chasing after it and I swear I saw Alec's eyes fill up with tears..... he was sitting in the back with me and when he saw them he threw himself over the middle seat and kicked and smashed everyone and jumped out of the car while Dan was still driving, while yelling in a very excited voice "Ah! Get me out of the car!" A very happy reunion for Alec and the Høgset kids. One of the sweetest things I've ever seen!

They had an amazing day planned for us. We went on a beautiful walk down to the coast and had a delicious dinner. We just fell in love with this family and really hope to see them again!!!

Another family Alec became attached to were the Silva's. We were so excited to be able to meet and visit with them for awhile. Here is a picture of them at their baptism with Alec and when we got to visit!

May 21st 2008

Alec had secretly arranged for the primary president in our ward to call me and ask me to help her with a gymnastics primary activity. She told me to meet her at the church in the back patio (where we danced the first time years ago) to help her set up. I was oblivious and excited. So I rushed there from work sweaty and tired I made my way down the steps turned the corner and saw Alec there standing in a suit. As I got closer I noticed that he had the song that we danced to playing in the background! I was like where is everyone?!??! And he asked me to dance. We danced for a minute and then he asked me if I would go on a walk with him up to the temple. He was so anxious that he was basically pulling me by the hand:) We got to the temple and he asked me to sit down on a bench then he went behind this bush and grabbed his guitar, he sang me a song he wrote just for me and I couldn't believe how AMAZING it was! He then brought me a big BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers. Then he knelt down to put his guitar away (had the ring hiding in his guitar case) turned around opened the ring box and asked me to MARRY HIM! I immediately covered my face and started balling and then he came on the bench and joined me in tears. It was SUCH a special moment. The sun was just setting and we were the happiest we've ever been! Then my little sister Beth hopped out of the bush's (she was taking pictures, I had no idea and brought me a change of clothes and some make up so I would feel better going out to dinner not in my Tricks Gym clothes:) sweet sister. We had fun announcing it to everyone that night!

He's BACK!

After not seeing each other for two years you could imagine the nervous excitement the day he came home! I told him to meet me where we first met right near the Sacramento temple and I hid behind a tree in this forest like area. I had a blanket layed out so he knew where I was. After I saw him get out of the car I almost started running the opposite direction because I was so nervous! Instead I ran behind another tree and he saw me and we ran to each other and it was the most peaceful feeling ever. The same Alec I was hoping for! Things were better than ever, and from then on we were INSEPARABLE!

Alec and I met when I was 11 years old at a church dance and then became best friends when I was 15 (in the picture above I was 15 and he was 17). We dated before he left on his mission to Norway and wrote each other every week for 2 years.
